COVID-19 Update : Tuesday 7th April 2020
Caring for our community’s health and wellbeing is our absolute priority, so we are pleased to confirm that The Mind Room is now fully operational online, with all our team working remotely. Here is what you need to know:
Telehealth consultations: For many years we have been providing online telehealth sessions via a secure video-based health platform. We can easily provide you with a virtual appointment – it is a pretty simple process, just click a link we email you and you’re in our virtual consulting room. Speak to our amazing reception team and they will guide you through the process.
Financial impact: We understand that people may be financially stressed at this time so rather than do our usual annual March fee increase, we have lowered our fees for privately paying clients by 10% effective through to 30th May 2020. If you are in significant financial distress and concerned you will be unable to continue with appointments, please make sure you raise this with your psychologist so they can talk through your options.
Private Health: If you have private health insurance please check in with them as they have made extra provisions for telehealth. Note, that you can not claim private health and medicare on the same appointment.
Medicare Rebates: The good news is that the Federal Government has recently announced that all Australians with a Mental Health Care Plan can now access Telehealth consultations (previously this was restricted to specific groups e.g., remote and regional clients) effective until the end of September 2020.
Medicare Bulk Billing: The Federal Government has mandated that specific vulnerable groups can be bulk billed only (no gap payment) for telehealth services. This means that any clients that fit the following criteria and have a Mental Health Care Plan are eligible for bulk billed psychology sessions, with no gap fee:
- Concessional; or
- under the age of 16; or
- are part of an identified vulnerable group for COVID-19
- people isolating themselves at home on the advice of a medical practitioner, in accordance with home isolation guidance issued by the AHPPC, and people who meet the current national triage protocol criteria for suspected COVID-19 infection after consultation with either the national COVID-19 hotline, state COVID-19 hotlines, registered medical or nursing practitioner or COVID-19 trained health clinic triage staff
- people aged over 70
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged over 50
- people with chronic health conditions or who are immunocompromised
If you fit within one of the categories above please make sure you raise this with our reception team or your psychologist to ensure your are billed appropriately. Government advice is changing rapidly. You may have booked a bulk bill session with us recently but do not fit within one of the categories above. We will be honouring these sessions until Monday 13th April.
